About

Coaching & Workshops

The world needs you creatively alive.

We are more creatively repressed than we realize, and the act of creation has a way of unlocking something in us that nothing else quite can. It connects us to our intuition, helps us problem-solve, move forward, and take care of ourselves in a way that feels real. Most importantly, it makes us more hopeful.

Who this is for?

You might be a creative who’s lost the spark, someone navigating burnout or perfectionism, or a person who’s never thought of themselves as “an artist” but feels a pull toward making something. These offerings are also for groups, teams, and organizations looking to bring people together through the act of creation. Whether we dream up a one-time experience or something ongoing.

Offerings:

1:1 Coaching

Think of this as a space that’s fully yours. Come ready to rant, vent, dream, or just figure out what’s going on. Together we’ll get to the root of what’s in the way, work through it with a somatic and embodied approach, and build an action plan that actually fits how you move through the world, with a little light homework to keep the momentum going.

Topics we can explore:

Unlearning perfectionism • Breaking free from creative blocks • Setting boundaries that stick • Reconnecting to your creative identity • Processing burnout • Resting without guilt • Navigating a big transition • Building a sustainable creative practice

Group Workshops

Workshops are designed to feel spacious, not rushed. We open with intention, drop into a guided activity where the real magic happens, and come back together to share and reflect. Every workshop is a little different, but they’re always low-pressure, welcoming, and grounded in the belief that everyone is capable of creativity.

Topics we can explore:

Zinemaking • Nourishing your creative spark • Engaging in rest • Setting boundaries • Unlearning perfectionism • Queer-centered creative spaces • Community healing through art • Working through creative block • Art making for non-artists

Who Am I?

J. Avolio
Creative Director

I’m J. Avolio, the Founder and Creative Director at Liminal States. I’m also a creative, zinemaker, and facilitator who believes making things is one of the most human acts there is. I host a monthly queer art hang at the Art Gallery of Hamilton and have facilitated workshops that get people out of their heads and into their hands. My approach is all about creating the conditions where you feel seen, ease into your creative practice, and let go of the pressure to make it perfect.
